2027 Spotlight

Myopia, seen from every angle

The Congress itself is interdisciplinary by design — but every edition of WVSC carries one focus the whole community can rally around. For 2027, that focus is myopia.

Why Myopia

A genuine test case for interdisciplinary work

Myopia is one of the fastest-growing vision concerns in the world — and it is also a near-perfect case study for why WVSC exists. No single discipline owns the problem, and no single discipline will solve it.

Four Angles, One Problem

How myopia surfaces across the programme

Optometry & Ophthalmology

Clinical management, treatment innovation, and the day-to-day realities of slowing progression in practice.

Visual Neuroscience & Psychophysics

The neuroscience of refractive development, and the psychophysics of how visual measurement informs diagnosis and tracking.

Psychology & Behavioural Vision

The behavioural and environmental factors — screen time, outdoor exposure, near-work habits — increasingly implicated in myopia's rise.

Myopia & Advanced Technology

The technology now being used to track, model, and treat myopia — from diagnostic imaging to AI-assisted progression forecasting.

Myopia is this year's focus, not the sole theme. The full Congress spans all four pillars throughout — myopia is simply the thread the 2027 programme is intentionally woven through, including dedicated sessions, panels, and discussion.
